The assessment process will cover a number of core areas:
Following this, an individualised plan will be made on how to proceed and may include:
This will be explained during the consultation and will be documented in the medical records and a copy of the clinic letter will be sent to the registered GP and patient.
We can review you current medication and give recommendations on alternative medication choices based on the nature and location of pain, other medical conditions and patient choice. We can also look at stopping medication which is ineffective or may have long-term harm, such as opiates and we can give the support and guidance to achieve this.
We offer a range of interventions from simple injections through to advanced interventions. This will be individualised to each patient, based on the nature and cause of their pain, medical comorbidities and potential risks.
Here is a list of some of the common interventions we offer:
Patient information leaflets on many of these procedures are available from the Faculty of Pain Medicine website.
We understand that patients aren't always happy with their medical consultations and occasional like to have an expert second opinion. This can be to reassure them and confirm management plans or to open up new treatment opportunities.
We are happy offer a second opinion to patients and we will try to remain objective. If you are arranging an appointment as a second opinion please let our admin team know at the earliest opportunity as it allows us time to request relevant investigations and corresponds from your general practitioner and other specialists.
If organisations are struggling with waiting lists or capacity we are able to help. Our expert team of consultants have the necessary skills and expertise to review and treat any pain related issues and our partner The LivingCare Group have the facilities and administrative support to achieve this. Please contact us with your requirements and we can see how we may be able to help.
We do not routinely see NHS patients and are not part of the NHS choose and book system., however we will review and treat patients privately who have received care in the NHS.
If a patient is seen by the Yorkshire Pain Clinic and wishes to be treated by the NHS we can discharge them and ask their GP to make a referral to a local provider via their agreed pathways and if we feel a patient would benefit from a specialist indication, such as neuromodulation, we will ask for the referral to be made to an appropriate specialist centre in line with national commissioning arrangements.
Private sector review and NHS treatment is unlikely to expedite care and offer any significant advantage and ideally patients should choose whether they wish to have care in the NHS or private sector at the outset, although we at the Yorkshire Pain Clinic fully appreciate that circumstances change.
